Kenma raced through the dark, dusty streets, all of his normal happy-go-luckiness replaced with determination. He had to get to Cade.

As he skidded around a corner, he nearly fell down the stairs of one of the subway entrances, but he picked himself up and continued running. He had less than an hour to get to the Knot House and warn the others before the government would officially be on their tails.

Ha. Tails.

Wait, why was that even funny? Kenma definitely wasn’t getting a ton of oxygen right now.

He passed an open street with a low wall lining it, with a couple of large bushes standing by the road itself.

Kenma caught a glimpse of strawberry blonde peeking out from beneath a bush and slowed his pace to a jog for a moment.

Kirat Huruan was lying on the ground unconscious, and a young woman with long reddish hair was asleep beside him. Both were fairly scratched up, and Kenma wondered for a moment if he should wake up Kirat and get him back to the Nest.

Kenma thought hard about it for a moment before sighing and rolling his eyes.

He’ll be fine. Probably. He concluded. He got himself into this situation, he should be able to get himself out. Besides, I don’t have much time. 

And with that, Kenma turned and sprinted down the road toward the Knot House.

 

Kenma burst into the foyer of the Knot House, colliding with someone immediately. He fell on the floor, completely winded.

“Kenma! What are you doing, you’re going to kill someone like that.”

Kenma opened his eyes to see Jin’s concerned expression above him.

Kenma flew to his feet. “Jin! Great! I need to find Cade, where is he?”

Jin frowned. “Slow down, you’re going to pass out.”

“Oh yeah, by the way, Kirat’s passed out on the side of Klimsac street, you should go get him later. Why are you out here?”

“A couple people won’t let me in because Cade’s not up here, so I’m stuck.” Jin grumbled. “and why do you need to find him?”

Kenma smacked himself. “Right! Cade! Message! Aghagh!!” He opened the wooden cover over the indoor window and climbed through.

Someone screamed. “Kenma! How did you get in here?”

“I used the window.” Kenma panted. “Or as I prefer to call it in situations like these, the Kenma Door. But that’s not important! Let Jin in now, and where is Cade?!”

“He’s down in the Nest.” Someone else replied. “They had to take Ainsely down there earlier. It could be pretty bad.”

“Thank you!” Kenma opened the door now and pulled Jin into the room, already running out the other door. “By the way, you might be asked to evacuate in ten minutes!”
