With a pained grunt, I pushed myself to my knees, rocks falling off my back. With a shake of my hair, a plume of grey dust ballooned forth.

I froze, however, at the … giant dragon … curled up a little ways away.

A dragon, I thought dimly, I should haven expected that.

But behind the sleeping dragon was a small group of hostages.

No, it can’t be him.

But there was no mistaking the naturally white hair — rather mussed and dirty instead of neatly slicked back — and the piercing ice-blue eyes that brought out the angles of his jaw.
