(His eyes are a bright sea green, but light like sea glass 🙂)

(Okay! I too must go for the night — talk to you tomorrow!)

Quin’s empty eyes landed on Rúan as he turned. No sign of the boyish light that had so vivaciously made them come alive.

“Sure,” he said, his tone dull and depressed.

Now fully concerned, Rúan knelt beside Quin, but seeing as he was still a good few feet taller than the boy, he sat instead, crossing his long legs underneath him.

After a beat of hesitation, Rúan asked, “What … happened?”

Stiff silence met his question, and Rúan immediately knew he had said the wrong thing.

“I apologize,” he murmured. Suddenly awkward and clueless on how to act, he uncomfortably rubbed the back of his neck.

Quin probably felt similar to when he himself had discovered that his friend was his enemy. Except that there had been a wild blaze in his chest, whereas there seemed to be no light at all in this boy.

As if it had a mind of its own, Rúan’s arm outstretched, and he gently touched Quin on the shoulder.

“Even if you are a murderer,” he murmured, “my understanding is that you want to leave that behind.” He met the silent boy’s eyes and offered a brief quirk of the lips. “I might have a hint as to what you are going through … and I want to leave my past behind as well.”

I’m sorry Quin … you probably don’t want to be touched right now. 😅

If there is anything you would like to change, @emily-waldorf, you are more than welcome to do so. 🙂
