@piperbee I think the beauty of second person is that although we are talking to the reader, we can make them into whoever we want them to be for the story’s purpose. i.e. “After your mom died, you found yourself taking up her sword and hunting orcs in the forests that bordered your family’s lands.”
I kind of found a better understanding from reading a short story in second person (it turned out to be super inappropriate) but it basically told the reader about a certain aspect of their lives, making them relate and feel as if they were the person described who had this other person in their lives.
I like the idea of the reader realizing they are dead, in a fantasy setting. Maybe we could give them a ton of flashbacks, building up a fantasy world around them through their past and giving an impression of warmth through their memories, then maybe come back to where they’re on the ground of a battlefield bleeding… like that whole “your life flashes through your eyes” thing.
OR what if the reader was Death, stalking a battlefield and being haunted by various people’s memories?? That just came to me but I feel like that would be super fascinating to write. Like we can start with them walking around a battlefield bending over dying people with concern, so they are under the impression that they are a healer of sorts, and then we twist the story until they realize they are Death, coming to take people away.
We’re about halfway through the time we have. Are there any other ideas (like Bama was talking about an adoption one)? Does someone want to start drafting this?
