@daeus-lamb From what I remember of the Silmarillion, the elves represented the idea of immortality? And death is seen as a gift to humans. I don’t think that’s quite what you were talking about, but that’s what struck me as interesting from the book.

For those of us who invent our own worlds, we have a great opportunity to point to certain truths by the way our world is different from the real world.

So it’s kind of like how your worldview will always leak into your stories, except that we build our worlds in light of this worldview? That’s a really cool concept. Worldbuilding has been set aside in my WIP right now to focus on actually writing it, but if I were to pick out what my world is about now, I’d say there’s a lot to do about achievement and wealth and success, things that are pretty ingrained into Asian culture, while my MC ends up challenging the system.

This is the last worldbuilding discussion then? 🙁 What’s going to be the yearly theme from now on?
