@hope-ann Nooooo! The Good Dinosaur has a very special place in my heart, and it was a good movie! *pouts*

Arlo reminded me of my little brother Tim when he was younger and had some health issues that were kinda scary. So… there was like immediate investment in the character. Also, I cried in like two different places because it was so touching. So hush. It was beautiful and I liked it.

Moving on. Your example. Ah, yes. Very good example of what we’re talking about. The way your character develops by pursuing the external need directly tie into the question posed by his internal want, and the two have a happy game of back-and-forth mutual building that makes a story coherent and thematically powerful.

@princess-foo *thinks for a minute* I think this works as a good example, too. The external goal (get rid of the Short One) hinges upon something that only the MC is willing to do, which is an element that ties directly into her internal need and arc – her trouble with freezing up (which undermines her willingness and makes it backfire).

I think those two work together really well. 🙂

@sageinthemeadow I think that makes sense!

    External goal: Find brother.

    Internal need: Peace.

And yet, to find her brother, she has to dive into the heart of the darkness that she wishes to move on from. And yet, in so doing, she does work through the things and her internal arc resolves, along with her external arc of finding her brother. I think those work together really well!

Sorry if I reinterpreted your story, but it seemed like I made somewhat educated guesses…

    Was I right?
