@professorsjb Yay, that’s exciting!
I definitely recommend only once a week. I used to do twice a week and it was absolutely overwhelming. In the end, I simply couldn’t keep going and it was such a relief when I stopped and just did it once a week. It’s much easier to avoid a burnout with just once a week, and people will still be engaged with that consistency of posting.
You can totally post short stories! Keep a good balance –sometimes short stories, sometimes articles, sometimes updates, etc– but doing a little flash fiction or story is really fun every now and then.
Growing your audience is something that takes a looot of patience because it doesn’t happen overnight. Emailing friends to let them know about your blog is totally fine! Another good way is by commenting* on other peoples’ posts and interacting with them. People will see your name, and might go and check out your blog. (*note: by commenting, I don’t mean commenting something like “Hey I’ve started a blog: LINK”. I mean commenting on topic to the post and being friendly. People can find your blog by the link on your name.)
You can also share posts on social media platforms. If you make picture headers with a creative photo and the title of your post on it (I know people who use Canva for this), it’s a great eye-catching thing to share with the link. Whether it’s on pinterest, facebook, twitter, linked in your Instagram bio, etc.
Other little hacks which can grow your audience: ask a more well known blogger to guest post on your blog (chances are they’ll share their post, thus bringing new people to your blog), ask to guest post on someone else’s blog (you’ll probably be linked to in a short bio/description), make sure your blog is easy to navigate, eye-catching, and semi-professional (when someone opens the tab, give them a reason to want to stay and check out the rest of your site).
