@taylorclogston Oooookay, I was wondering who it would be for this post. 😛
I’m going to give the general disclaimer now that Daeus and I clash quite a bit on different topics, and this is one of them. xD Mostly, it’s because writing is a craft with very few “set” rules, formulas, and definitions. Lots of different things work for different people. Also, all of the guildmasters have different levels of experience, and are better in some areas than others.
I personally would never say to have 20 people read your first draft. However, the method I’m currently going through with my novel is as follows.
1. Five people who are not writers. This is so they can give you their thoughts as a reader.
*edit accordingly*
2. Four writers. They can give you a lot of really good insight and help brainstorm how you could make it better.
*re-write*
3. A close friend who will give you an opinion.
*macro-edit with some major changes*
4. Two people who you know do a lot of beta reading.
*edit accordingly*
5. Freelance editor.
Those are just some of the ideas I would have. *shrugs*
Ah yes. Finding your readers is always a challenge. Working on platform building is huge for that. Once you get a lot of followers, and put snippets of your writing up, you’ll find people volunteering. 😀
