Great advice there! Prioritizing lists is something I’ve been doing recently. Right now I have a lot of work deadlines piling up, being that April 1 is the start of a new quarter. So I made a list of all the things I absolutely have to get done by the end of the week. (Way too much, by the way, procrastination is a nasty thing.)

The last couple of days, I told myself that I couldn’t work on ANY personal projects (except perhaps a 10 minute break here and there) until I meet specific deadlines. With that in the back of my head, I finished plowing through one deadline just a few minutes ago that I wasn’t expecting to have done until the end of Friday. That means not only can I snowball my efforts on knocking out the other deadlines, I can also take a guilt-free extended break to work on personal projects this afternoon.

So for me, setting my writing (or other hobbies) as rewards for accomplishing my goals is both a great way to ensure I reach those goals, and also to make sure I get in some productive time writing as well.
