Got some of Kester’s backstory and origin!
So. It’s really hard to have wings on a character without magic, but here’s my shot at it: maybe there’s just a subset of humans in this world that have wings. 🤷🏼♀️ It would make sense considering the world they live in, with all the floating islands and such. I was wondering if maybe we could even say that they even have a sort of special task of protecting the royal family? Maybe? But that would probably make things too complicated because it would lead to the question of why, which would be hard to answer, since it feels like we’d have to answer it with lore or history with some sort of theological undertone. BUT then again, I still feel like the question needs answering because why the dickens would the guy have win—WAIT A MINUTE
WAIT A DADBLANG MINUTE
WE’RE KIND OF DOING A STEAMPUNK WORLD RIGHT??????
AND KESTER IS REALLY SMART AND KNOWS A LOT ABOUT THINGS RIGHT??????
NO. HE DOESN’T HAVE WINGS. HE BUILT HIMSELF WINGS.
Maybe. Idk. What do y’all think?
Also, as far as his past goes, here it is: His father was once an advisor in the King’s court but was kicked out because—surprise, surprise—he gave poor advice (maybe something that lead to the villain getting his weather machine?). His mother left him and Kester for some reason, probably because Kester’s dad was already kind of a jerk before he failed so miserably, and it got even worse once he was fired. So Kester, when he was a child, lived under the eye of a dad who (a) lost his job, (b) lost his wife, and (c) potentially caused this horrible thing that could potentially throw his country into chaos, so yeah he was mean and was never really satisfied and pushed his son a little too hard (his Dad isn’t heartless or a monster, he just deals with emotion the wrong way).
So since his dad is never really satisfied, Kester essentially threw himself into everything with full force and became incredibly smart and skilled for his age, and was recruited by the King (who should be a just man and doesn’t judge a man by his family history?) to be an advisor for his daughter at 17. So he’s been pretty much doing just that for the last two years, as well as dabbling in swordsmanship and weaponry (he’s not very good at it though—he knows about it in theory, but doing it is an entirely different matter 😂).
That also explains why Kester can be such a heartless jerk sometimes—because he feels like he has something to prove. Bless his baby bones.
BUT ANYWAY XDDDD
I have a really fun idea—not really an important thing, but I thought it’s be fun. So we’re going to use science to explain things for the most part in this world, right?
So, imagine how “scientists” would try to explain the floating islands. 😂😂 I got the idea thinking about one of my favorite books, “The Rise and Fall of Mount Majestic,” where there’s a smart guy who’s supposed to know a lot. So. To explain why the mountain rises and falls (you’d have to read the book), he says that it’s tied to an invisible string that connects to the sun. So when the sun rises, the mountain rises, and when it falls, the mountain falls.
So I said all that to say, it’d be some hilarious comedy if someone just sprouts hilarious scientific explanations for the way things work that make no sense at all. Just a thought. 😂
Anyway. I feel like I had something else to suggest but I can’t remember. Oh well 🤷🏼♀️
