@ethryndal  For Liriel, I might add some faltering thoughts that seep into her subconscious, like what @literatureforthelight said. And then, have her push those thoughts away and force herself not to dwell on things like that. But as her character arc goes on, have the changes be more dramatic, perhaps. Maybe have her doubt her little more, or wonder about the side of good you’re trying to show. *shrugs*
