This is an interesting topic. I’m not sure how I feel about guilt, it’s not something I struggle with, say, for hours and hours on end. If I’m convicted, I talk to God about it and ask for His forgiveness, maybe ponder on it a bit, and then I’m done.
One of the problems is when I read Christian fiction and the main character seems to brush aside anything he’s done wrong. Or maybe it’s when he seems too perfect and there’s no guilt. Guilt seems to be one of the hardest topics to write and to write about, and I’m supposing there’s a good reason for that.
Adding to this is that I don’t read much about guilt these days. It just doesn’t seem like a present part and when it does appear it plays a minor role, which is sort of interesting, now that I look back on it.
Christian fiction, when writing about guilt, tends to lean towards the redemption arc, with the guilt plaguing the character until they realize they’ve been forgiven. Then comes the struggle to give up the guilt and be free.
I don’t know, here are just some of my scattered thoughts, I don’t know if they even make any sense. But it’s just a little somethin’. 🙂
