@Morreafirebird Thank you for your description of the theme and message! It ties all the different elements together nicely. I have trouble pinning down themes/messages etc. in stories sometimes, and that clarified it :).
I agree that Parvin had a fantastic voice. I don’t remember as much of the story as I would like, but I did feel like her character and her relationship with God was realistic, not only in A Time to Die but in the other stories as well.
One cool aspect of the story was the lack of response the general populace had to Parvin’s message, at least at first. They were comfortable where they were, which was both realistic and terribly frustrating as the reader starts to root for Parvin’s goal.
I still can’t really place where it comes from, but something about the world felt bland to me. The unique elements were thematically relevant for the most part, the premise was unique and cool, and there weren’t so many new elements I was overwhelmed, and yet, I still couldn’t shake the bland feeling. I’m still trying to figure out what bothered me. 😛
Oh well. I still thought it was great. I also had a hard time switching from Jude and Solomon, but that’s more during the rest of the series.
Fantastic point that I think I need to remember for my own WIP. 🙂
@Sam-kowel It’s a pretty cool book. 😀
