@kate Whoa. I’ve never heard of a sequel that picked up with the two love interests as spouses and parents. That’s awesome that you did that. 😀 What genre is your story?

And yes, I completely agree that parents shouldn’t just be cardboard cutouts. They deserve their own hopes, dreams, interests, personalities, goals, etc. Just because a character has children doesn’t mean they’re automatically dead weight to the story. Sometimes I wonder if some authors even outline their parent characters before they slap them into their novel, lol.
