I thought I had the 3-act structure nailed… until I decided to write a duology with multiple POVs. That’s scrambled my brain. I’ve also confused myself by trying to start in medias res, because the inciting incident has essentially already happened when the story begins.

I am quite pleased with my characteristic moment, though. It basically shows Suri and Kito’s new normal, living in the middle of nowhere trying to survive on whatever they can find, terrified of being hunted. Suri is thinking ahead, wanting to get them to the dark-elf kingdom as quickly as possible because they’ll be safe there, but she’s full of doubt as to whether she can do it.

The resolution is also… interesting. Because I’m essentially only halfway through the story, I’ve tied up all the loose ends from the plot of book 1, put everything on a very hopeful trajectory… Just in time to drop a bombshell. Turns out Kito’s going to be the villain of book 2. Even I wasn’t sure that was actually going to happen :/

So yeah. I’m confused. The 3-act structure looks quite simple when planned out like that but when actually put into practice, not so much 😀
