Activity

It’s short, but here’s mine:

It takes my eyes a moment to adjust to the dim light, and for several seconds I see nothing. I lean against the wooden door, breathing hard.

Except for me, nothing moves or makes a sound. As my vision adjusts, I can make out low piles of straw along the walls, and a thick layer of it covering the floor. Light leaks through cracks and holes in the wood, and dust dances in its shafts.

The straw muffles the sound of my footsteps as I look around. The barn is deserted but the smell of animals still lingers in the air.

A voice calls nearby and I pause. They’ll look in here, of course. These thin, hole-ridden walls won’t hide me for long.

I shove a pile of straw aside and wedge myself between it and a wall. I can hear something skittering away and hope it’s only a large spider rather than a rat.

Pulling the straw around me, I settle down to wait. This time I’m going to win, then it will be my turn to seek.
