@j-a-penrose here’s mine, a sudden flash of inspiration that I plan to put in Oath (hope to, at least):

    Three rings.

Three exquisite rings adorn his fingers, one for each time I betrayed my sacred trust.

The one on his pointer finger is sapphire, the golden band embracing the jewel like a friend. My eyes burn as I look away, remembering the blue tassels that line the borders of my garments, the ones that were supposed to stop me from giving into temptation.

That betrayal was caused by my mind.

The second, the one on his middle finger, flashes back red at me, ruby light searing the backs of my eyelids. This time I remember the blood that rushed to my heart, the flush that came upon my cheeks, the sweat that beaded on my skin.

    That betrayal was my heart’s.

The third sits snugly on his ring ringer, the gem in the center a mix between amber and dusk. They remind me of the shadows that played on his face, that flirted with the forbidden, that caressed my fears and soothed them away–the shadows almost as soft as my skin.

That betrayal belonged to my hands.

    Three rings.

How I wish I could forget all the mistakes we made that night, but I know I cannot.

Forget, forget, forget, a voice chants, that’s all you want to do, isn’t it?

I grit my teeth and nod.

That’s all I crave, yet that is the only thing being held back from me.

Was that enough backstory or no? I may have mixed a little bit of last week’s lesson in subconsciously, so… 😂
