Something like a voice started to break through the darkness in Logan’s mind. He couldn’t tell what it said, but it was soft and soothing. He felt a strange coolness on his forehead and gradually the pain faded.

The voice began to clear, he recognized it as the girl’s. The words became understandable. “It’s going to be okay,”

The coolness took on the form of hands. Her hands. They moved back and forth across his temples. He took a deep breath as his vision cleared and he realized that he had been staring into her eyes.

For a moment he shut his eyes and just breathed, trying to calm the trembling in his muscles.

Then he opened them and took another deep breath. The smoke no longer choked his lungs. He could breathe.

His eyes focused on her face and he saw the tears in her eyes and the look of care and concern on here features.

He suddenly felt sorry. She shouldn’t have had to see him like that. She was just a teenager. His trauma shouldn’t have to add to hers. He saw through the concern on her face, he saw the pain too. Everyone in this city was affected by the tension, no matter how old or young they were.

Taking another deep breath, he spoke, trying cover up the pain in his eyes with a weak smile. “I I-Im sorry!! Thank you for staying and. . . Most people don’t. I’m sorry if I scared you. . .”
