Ignis sighed and stopped digging around in her hat. She glanced at the contents of the box, a small smile appearing as she vaguely remembered the memory.

A solemn expression quickly replaced her smile as she felt the left pocket of her skirt grow warm. She shifted so she wasn’t facing the others. Then she slipped her hand in and pulled out a golden, oddly shaped, glowing key. The light pulsed, the key hummed, and from the fog in her head emerged an unwanted memory. Her expression darken as she shifted her sight to the pile of objects on the floor, noticing the chronicle she had been avoiding.

“I can’t deal with this now.” She mumbled softly to herself, shoving the key back into her pocket. The warmth remained as an irritating reminder of things Ignis wanted to forget. Things she wasn’t sure she could ever deal with. Her heart grew heavy while tears brimmed her eyes as the terrible moment replayed in her. The moment she felt he was gone. Her heart throbbed as reality was swept away by the flood of happy memories of watching over the kid.

Not now. She pleaded silently, staring at the chronicle. Get it back in the hat and don’t touch it. Get it back in the hat and don’t touch it. She took deep steady breaths while coaching herself on how to handle the situation. She shifted the objects so the book was alone on top of a blanket. Then she flipped the hat over it, using the blanket to get it in the hat without touching it. However, that was not the end of the problem.

In the corner of her eye, Ignis spied the wispy creature of shadows lurking within her own shadow.

“You have no hold here. Be gone.” Ignis spoke softly but sternly.

The creature offered a black grin, but then left.

Ignis knew what that grin had meant because she had seen the creature do it before. It made her blood boil. She balled her fists and forced the memories to the back of her mind. She did not have time to deal with this. She was on a mission. She had other people to help. She would sort out her own problems later.

Ignis finally managed to turn her attention back to the situation at hand. She wasn’t sure how much she had missed, but Storm was here now and even seemed to be making some progress on getting the wounded girl to let them help. However, their patient didn’t seem to like the thought of having her hoodie removed.

Ignis scooted over to the medkit and began examining the supplies and the instructions. “If I am reading this correctly, she doesn’t need to take off her hoodie for us to help her.”

(@jessi-rae @dakota @katthewriter I’m back! Temporarily anyways. Sorry I was gone so long and that this post is so long. I had a lot to catch up on so I figured it’d just be best to have Ignis space out.)
