Thanks so much for the explanation. This castle sounds exactly like what Jade needs if she’s going to be my protagonist. 😂

Once Rosemary gained her feet, she strode over to Avin but didn’t get there before causing another disaster, bumping her head against the crystalline light fixture and sending it shattering to the floor.

“Oops,” she said in the sudden darkness.

Jade sighed. She stared at the now razor-covered floor and then at her delicate ballet slippers. Then her best friend earned a stare by talking to a stranger.

“Hi. Does this castle control chemicals?” Rosemary asked Avin.

Avin was still recovering from his panic at being spotted, which gave Jade time to say, “If there’s not any dratted Benevolents you’ll be fine.”

Avin said, “I do not know what you mean by ‘dratted Benevolents,’ but I have never seen anyone by that name here.”

A huge grin spread across Rosemary’s face.

“Don’t get too excited,” said Jade while eyeballing the distance between floor and ceiling. It would be a long leap in the dark to try to reach Rosemary and Avin. She took it. Thankfully I’m not as tall as Rosemary.

She landed her perfectly executed leap right beside her friend.

“Why shouldn’t I be excited?” asked Rosemary.

Avin answered, “Even though there are no ‘Benevolents,’ there is still the Castle to reckon with.”
