Ooo! My absolute favorite Lord of the Rings characters are Faramir, Aragorn and Eowyn, by far (though I love so many), with an honorary mention to Tom Bombadil! I wrote an essay about just how great he is. I love him. My favorite Silmarillion characters are Melian, Elwing and Haleth. I just love those ladies! As for the Hobbit, I really like Beorn and very much enjoyed the (few, sadly) parts with him in it ^_^
