I love the breakdown between types of editing here. I’m kind of a perfectionist myself, but no matter how many times I comb through my own work, I know I’m bound to miss something. Plus, I’m too emotionally invested and am liable to miss big picture pieces too! I think editors are worth their weight in gold…if you find the right ones. I’ve never had my work professionally edited per say, but I did work in a program once with a short story and the mentor acted as an editor for that. It was a really neat experience.
Hmm, writing flaws. Well, I’m not very good with concise. XD I tend to develop things slowly and let things stew, so short is not my forte. I’m also trying to learn how to better grip the “showing” skill so that I can determine for myself when it is best to use showing and when it’s best to use telling. I’m also not so great at transitions in writing, so I’m trying to work on that, too. :/
