Between work and some crazy life stuff, my presence will be very hit and miss (though that’s sadly nothing new), but the first thought that came to my mind was a battlefield, so I agree we shouldn’t go with that. It seems too easy- no, not easy. Cliche. There will probably be one or two entries with battlefield scenes.

However, I did have another thought. What about a young child as the narrator whose mom is dragging them Black Friday shopping? Now THAT’S chaos, and if the child doesn’t want to be there, but then finds beauty in something ordinary… or the narrator could be a teen, which could add some depth and additional emotional and mental complicated-ness. Or the narrator could be an adult who meets a child; the child could be tired, and the adult might feel sorry for them, but then the child could smile and laugh at something ordinary, and when the adult realizes what it is, it gives the adult a new sense of wonder, or a renewed determination to do something, or just… I don’t know. This might not be a good/workable idea at all. I just thought I’d throw it out there. 😉

As far as other chaotic settings that come to mind: amusement parks, movie sets, theatre productions, zoos, big cities (though I feel like that could be cliche too), fairs, a park full of geese or some other kind of animal that makes a lot of noise… maybe an animal rehabilitation center of some kind.

One other note since I may not be back before the deadline. I think we should definitely make the “chaos” engage as many of the senses as possible that relate to the scene. There could be a “melting pot of smells,” a sound that “numbs the mind and rattles the bones,” a “supermarket of textures,” a “hailstorm of colors,” or a food that tastes “like last weeks nachos had a fist-fight with yesterday’s jalapenos.”
