I settle onto the warm stones and grin. “Oh, surviving.” Then I sigh and glance down at the floor. “Honestly, I kind of feel trapped too, though not so much in a boring cycle as in a trap of never-ending responsibilities and not knowing when to say no to stuff. I just don’t know if I’ll be able to keep doing everything I want to do and everything I need to do for much longer, and it scares me to think about what I might have to give up.”
I’m quiet for a few seconds, then look up. “But there’s always hope and peace to be found in Christ. Sometimes it’s just hard to remember. The other night, I couldn’t sleep, and of all the verses to be stuck in my head it was Psalm 23:3- specifically the line, ‘He restoreth my soul.’ And all I could think of was to cry out to God, ‘Lord, I can’t sleep, and if I’m going to be restored I need sleep!’ But then I realized that, even though my body may struggle, He can still restore my soul. That’s when I remembered to go on to the rest of the verse, ‘He leadeth me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake,’ and I felt comforted knowing that I could trust Him to lead me- sleep or no sleep.”
I feel the heat rising in my cheeks as I finish speaking, and quickly add, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to preach. I just felt like maybe I should share that.”
