Hi ‘people on this forum’! Wow, there are so many interesting stories on here! And holy cow, those family trees are cool- how in the world do you find the time to go so far back?!
I don’t have any super interesting stories (except for some awesome stories from my mom when she was a kid- oh boy, did she get in trouble often!) But I saw at the beginning of this that some of you wrote stories/poems that kinda ended up corresponding with your life and I have a story like that. It started with one poem and branched into several abortion poems. 😉
So, for absolutely no clear reason, in January I think, I wrote this poem called ‘What if Life Would End, Today?’ I had no apparent reason for writing it. I just did- and it was about using the time we had, what our testimonies would be to Jesus once we died, etc. A week or two later, I happened to look back on it and started being convicted. What if life really WOULD end, today? I was feeling unsure about anything I’d accomplished so far in this life and I came to the realization that everything I was focusing on and such was for the future. “Someday, I’ll publish a book and change the world.” “Someday, I’ll go to college and do something awesome.” So, yeah. I felt like God was calling me to really DO something meaningful to further His kingdom- now. But I did nothing about it and just stewed over my feelings because that’s what I do. 😬😂
Fast-forward to February: my friend invites me to her birthday slumber party with a bunch of friends from dance class. I get a random feeling beforehand that I’m going to get answers to my convictions that night. We all went and goofed off and watched Megamind until 1:00 AM and then were PREPARING to go to sleep when one of my friends pulled out someone else’s Bible and we all started crowding her for an extended Bible study at 1:15 AM (You know, like normal teenage girls do at a slumber party😂). Suddenly, one of the girls got all riled up about a law that had just been passed in New York that allowed abortions up until birth. We were obviously all upset about that and our extended Bible study turned into a Scripture-supported philosophical conversation at the end of which we were all discussing the moral problems of abortion.
While we were talking about all that, (and not even caring about the two girls trying to sleep while the other 7 of us ranted) finally, the girl who first brought up the subject was ready to jump in the car (at 2:00 AM) and drive to NY to protest. I decided to pull out my poem and I looked at What if Life Would End Today… no joke, it was SCARY to me how much it totally lined up with what we were saying! Our Bible study continued until 4:00/4:30 AM when we woke up the two sleepers and all prayed in a circle on the kitchen floor and #CALLED was born (our little group of teenage pro-life activists 🙂 ) The next morning was the best part because we were still totally into it and it turned out it wasn’t a sleep-deprived spasm! We all grouped together and asked our parents if we could go to NY and peacefully protest. (Actually, our words were probably more like: “We’re going to New York; how do we make this happen?”) After that we all started informing each other more and more about abortion issues and stuff and as that went on it inspired me to write one abortion poem after another and it was awesome.😂 So, yeah: a story I’ll always remember that inspired me to write things. 😁
(And, btw, we DID end up going to NY exactly 1 month after that slumber party AND [we actually had no idea] the night we made #CALLED was actually the national Day of Mourning over abortion- coincidence? 😏]
