Alright, here it is!

David stared openly, taking in the odd sight. Was this a dream? Had he actually slipped and fallen down that steep cliff and injured his head?

The dull, dreary grey of the rocky cliffs back there was a stark contrast to this bright, nearly neon coloured landscape. The hot sun pounded down on his face. That didn’t make sense. He’d just come from a place where the sun was hidden by the rain clouds, the cliffs were wet and slippery, and now he was already beading with sweat from the heat. Of course, it didn’t help that he was still wearing his woollen sweater he’d put on that morning. Or was that yesterday? The days were melding together into one jumbled memory.

Someone cleared their throat behind him.

David whirled around with alarm, his hand automatically reaching for the handgun at his side. When he felt nothing, he remembered he’d dropped it during his climb. But why was he carrying a gun, anyway? Before he could think about his loss of memory, he realized a young girl, no more than nine years of age, was staring at him intently. Her dainty mouth was slightly ajar as if trying to decide what to make of him.

Was this his rescuer? The mysterious hand who’d pulled him away from his pursuers?
