Quin
“Hey,” Rúan said quietly, “Hey.”
Quin looked up, but he seemed to be looking through him rather than at him.
Rúan gripped both of his shoulders and stared him, forcing Quin to meet his gaze. “What has happened has happened. You can’t change it. She probably would not have wanted you to keep dwelling on this.”
Quin glanced at Qatar. He was looking at them, and Quin could tell from his face that he knew what they were talking about.
He’ll never forgive me. He met his brother’s eyes. Qatar looked away.
“Tell me,” Rúan said, “would she have wanted this for you?”
Quin opened his mouth, closed it, then stuttered, “I-I … guess not.”
It doesn’t matter what she wants. She’s dead. How many times had Qatar’s actions echoed those words?
Rúan smiled slightly. “There. Don’t dwell on it, okay? I won’t do you any good.”
He’s probably right. But what does it really matter, in the end? Slowly, Quin nodded, but his eyes were on his brother, not Ruan.
Ruan sighed, and seemed to give up. Quin looked back at him. the bandage Niarok had wound around his leg were stained red, and Ruan looked pale from bloodloss. At least it’s the other leg…
“That looks like it hurts.”
That was a stupid thing to say. He glanced at Basil. The man seemed lost in a memory, with a look of disappointment or pain or sorrow on his face.
“Are you okay, Basil?”
@mamaauthoress feel free to answer with Ruan even though the post ends with a question for Basil. 😀
