Klein looked up at the night sky. It was so much like it was on Earth and Mars. Stars twinkled and shown in the black abyss. Peacefully they would drift over the sky through the night. Few would notice that. It was taken for granted that simple things were often the most beautiful. While he admired the view Klein recorded it. His suit’s computer included a star map for navigation. It would now try to determine where he was but the lack of a starting location would delay the results.

Sighing, Klein set to work on his rifle. The current configuration was too long for use in the jungle environment they were now faced with. Grasping the barrel shroud, Klein unscrewed the fore end of the rifle. Shortened to a carbine, he could now use it more freely. His armor on the other hand couldn’t change so easily. It had been designed for stormtroopers and so was more heavily armored. That armor made the suit bulky but also allowed for more storage. Klein would have to deal with the bulk. Sending and electric current over the composite plates, the grey tones faded, replaced by darker greens and black. It was the only real change he could do.

The others were drifting on into the jungle. Silently, Klein began to shadow them. Soon he had slipped ahead of them. He didn’t let them out of hearing range or out of sight. The torch held by the newcomer Nairok was quite a beacon. Which was why Klein remained in the shadows. Before being enhanced, he had been a Marine Corps scout. The light would draw in any enemies in the area. And Klein would intercept them.

While he would have liked to help poor Yila, his medic kit was basic. Morphine syringes, armor paste to seal the suit if was punctured in space, gauze and hemostatic meds. None of them would be any good for the swelling she had on her arm. The morphine could cut the pain but too much could kill her.

For now he would remain on patrol.

I have an idea – lets do theme songs for our characters. I’m a sucker for music, it helps me write and imagine! Pick a song of any genre that you feel speaks to your character the most. Maybe you heard it one day and it inspired you create that character. Or maybe you just thought ‘wow that song sounds exactly like this character’.

Well I think Klein’s would be something like Toby Keith’s American Soldier.
