Nora gasped as Lagoron pulled her behind him. She mentally cursed herself as she realized both her sword and the zifer were over by the campfire. Out of the corner of her eye, Nora saw a speeding shape flying towards them.

“Behind you!” Nora yelped. She hated feeling defenseless, but here she was—defenseless.

Making a split second decision, Nora ducked out from behind Lagoron and bolted to the fire, snatching up her weapons. She fastened the sheath around her waist and pulled the zifer out. It would be more useful than the sword right now. She glanced around, trying to locate her friends through the haze of smoke. Jason was throwing ninja stars here and there; Arla was distracting the enemy with some rather unflattering words while Limpitt shot fireballs from behind, turning them into ash. Ian was finally out from underneath the frozen shifter and was helping Holly out. The two created a whirl of destruction, and any hesitation from the shapeshifters they were fighting would mean death.

Then Nora spotted Lagoron and her heart sank to her toes. He was putting up a good fight… but he was losing.
