I agree with you about Beyond the Edges of the Maps. . . I found that one kinda depressing. I mean, it’s all good and well to write a story about a dad of a girl who got taken by the Black Carriage, but to choose Sara Cobbler? Seriously? There is no record in any of the books, as far as I can recall, that she ever sees either of her parents again. And then at the end — did the dad just die? What was up with that? It seemed almost like he was dying, but I honestly can’t tell. And if he didn’t die, then what the heck happened?! I did like the epilogue though. . . though I would have liked it a lot more if it had been about the dad somehow having survived, and going and meeting his grandkids.
And yes. The Prince of Yorsha Doon was good. It almost reminded me of the live-action Aladdin movie at times. And the Disney version of Prince of Persia. *shrugs* Must be a desert action/adventure thing. It would have been cool if Kal or Janner had somehow shown up in it though, though I can’t really see Andrew Peterson doing that.
And then To the Deeps of the Dragon King. . . in my opinion, it could have been better. For one, the references in the main Wingfeather Saga books to how Podo lost his leg don’t match up with it. For another, that wasn’t the imagery that my brain had come up with for Podo’s dragon-hunting days, so yeah. But I can see why you like it.
