You’re welcome! The Ashtown Burials is my favorite book series. I recommend you read The Hundred Cupboards at somep point as well, as I have reason to believe that the final book of The Ashtown Burials will incorporate 100 Cupboards characters in some way.

Rupert started back when a humanoid-girl-thing nearly barrelled into him from… somewhere… and in moments his guns were in his hands. He made a mental note not to waste a single bullet, as it seemed highly unlikely that he would be able to find cartridges with which to reload his revolvers here.

The girl leaped backwards too, and Rupe noted that she held a metal cylinder in each hand. Likely some kind of weapon, though what on earth they could do, he wasn’t sure.

“Who are you?” the girl asked darkly, without a hint of fear in her voice.

Rupert trained both of his revolvers on her, fingers ready at their triggers, but did not fire. “I could ask you the same thing.”

An idea struck him, and he paused, then slowly lowered his guns. “Does the term ‘Avengel’ mean anything to you?” he asked her tentatively.

She didn’t seem like an adult, if her voice was any indication, and  perhaps her answer would be able to help him figure out whether she was friend or foe.
