Riure was calming Sadiq down when a voice called, “I don’t know how you treat the rulers in your countries, but in mine, people respect me and do my will. Now, do either of you currently and successfully govern 19 galaxies?”

Riure paused, unsure if he was talking to her. All was still for a moment, including the birds and Sadiq.

“No?” Oh. It was the “sit down” guy. Whoops. She was actually kind of glad Sadiq hadn’t taken her directly to him. A puzzle, this one. Maybe she could work on him later. “Then I propose you take a grip.” Footsteps. “I hope I made sense. Any questions?”

Riure couldn’t help it. Laughter bubbled out of her like a chick from an egg. She knew she had a funny laugh, and whenever she heard herself laugh, she just laughed harder. Not good, calm down, Riure! she scolded herself. Sadiq rubbed against her.

Someone stalked over. Riure could tell he was angry. Her laughter faded, and she turned slightly in his direction, sweeping him her finest curtsy. “Are you the king?”
