@rolena-hatfield and @scribbles Seriously!! It’s been six years for me too since HS graduation and time FLIES! It’s crazy! My dad once told me that as you grow, time gets exponentially faster. He was so right! It’s scary how fast it goes by.
Rachel, I love the beautiful imagery you use! The language is vivid and paints a clear picture. The writing felt simple–though not in a bad way at all!) It felt like a children’s tale. The writing style added to the innocent, childlike tone. It reminds me of simpler, happier days, living carefree and full of wonder about the world around me.
I really liked your characters. The bullfrog made me smile. He seemed a very wise and kind creature. Maybe a bit like the traditionally depicted owl, but…better. I don’t know. I’m not a frog girl my any means in real life, but this one had a enchanting ‘je ne sais quoi’ about him. (Though, I must admit the transition from his last statement on page three to the “Autumn” line was a very unexpected and abrupt transition. Come to think of it, a few of the transitions were a tad abrupt, but this was the harshest and the first.) You had such a cool variety of characters too, many different kinds of animals and interests and personalities.
I loved the perspective of the story from the animals, literal viewpoint. I don’t know if you’ve ever seen any of Max Lucado’s Hermie and Friends videos, but this reminded me of those! They’re garden characters who learn lessons and such, a great children’s collection and some of my very favorites for sure. The pov and the innocence, the setting and the characters just kind of made me think of them. 🙂 There was one bit that even reminded me of a specific episode XD “To Share or Nut to Share.”
DAWWW!! Okay, that ending was just too cute!!! (Can you tell I “review” as I read? XD) Overall, it was such an inspiring and heartwarming little story. I loved it!! I hope you do write more in a little series. They would make excellent little children’s books one day. Or just one if you don’t want to write more.
I definitely think you should write more!! Personally, I don’t really think I’d like the human MC as much as I do just these fun-loving little creatures. (Course, I say that, then you’ll write it and I’ll just love it anyway XD)
