Ahab mumbled curses under his breath. There was a kid under a couch, a guy floating in the air, a girl with an ax; and NO ONE could just answer a question.
“Kids these days,” he muttered to himself. Oh well. He couldn’t stand here arguing all day when he had a guy to kill, a castle to escape, and– Ahab nearly did a face-palm. He was acting just like THE GREAT MONGREL. Saul. His dire enemy. The stupidity of it suddenly crashed upon him and he out-right laughed. The children glanced at each other as the man roared so hard one of the statues sitting on the edge of one of the shelves tumbled and crashed to the floor.
Ahab grinned. Brawn is great, and it gets you far, but brains beat it in the long run. And he needed to use some of those wits right now. He mosied over to a sitting chair, and sat down. The kids watched him intently. Ahab crossed his legs, leaned back, put his elbows on the armrests, and put his fingers together. It was a very vulnerable position, and Ahab knew the kids knew it as well as he did. But he wasn’t worried.
He looked at each of the children. Then he spoke in an even voice. “You do not know who the lord of this castle is?”
Blank stares.
“Then I’ll tell you.”
Slight raising of eyebrows.
“I’M the Lord of this Castle.”
Blank stares.
“And you are trespassing.”
Gets ready to do whatever is necessary.
But Ahab just cracked his neck and smiled. He knew kids, while often making dumb decisions, could be smart if they wanted to. He just hoped they’d buy into his scheme. If they didn’t, oh well. He could just leave the room and go about his business. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have to worry about them being a nuisance, and could perhaps get a bit of information out of them. And if they tried to kill him, well, they’d just learn a lesson they’d never forget.
