Ok, yes, I figured out that we can start writing today, and where to put my word count.  You can write on anything (Scrivener, Google Docs, Microsoft Word, etc.), but you don’t write on the NaNoWriMo site itself.  You just enter your word count.

So, what I did was enter the project info (name, goal, synopsis, etc.).  (Btw, did you get an email saying that Camp NaNo starts tomorrow?)  <span style=”display: inline !important; float: none; background-color: #ffffff; color: #333333; font-family: Georgia,’Times New Roman’,’Bitstream Charter’,Times, serif; font-size: 16px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;”>Then I clicked</span> on “projects”, scrolled down to the bottom of the page, where that goal will be.  Tap on the goal, and this should pop up:

If that happens, this page will have all your writing stats.  At the top, right under my book cover, it says I’ve written 1091 words so far.  Below that box, in Progress Updates, you can tap on “+ add new update” in the top right corner.  Whenever you finish writing something, you submit a new update that will add up your word count.

Hope that helps and makes sense!
