I have a suggestion: @m_corinnemusic said that we need to get the reader attached to the character as quickly as possible, and that the character should impact others. I totally agree. What if the father (if we use him as our dying character) gives his life for a rebellious son? That scene could be packed full of emotion (not to mention symbolism), especially if it’s written from the son’s perspective.

But then the father wouldn’t be alone when he dies, so…that idea might not work after all–at least, not without some tweaking. Anyway, just a suggestion. 🙂
