@kate I HATH FOUND ANOTHER LOKI GIF WARRIOR (I tend to use Loki gifs in
mostall of my responses to people :D)Great ideas, you guys. One challenge about this is that we need to get the reader attached to the character as quickly as possible, but also as authentically as possible. In thinking over the last character death that I cried over, and analyzing why, I noticed that I was attached not only to the character, but to the character’s impact on others. I realize that aspect could be difficult if the character is dying alone. But maybe some of the flashbacks/things running through the character’s mind should be worries about other people. Maybe it’s a father and he’s worried about his children. Not just about their safety and security without him, but also sad for himself that he won’t get to see them grow up. That sort of thing.
I don’t know what the best way to attach the reader to the character would be, but we obviously need to give the reader a reason to be sad about this.
One thing we could do to avoid the pitfall of it being solely in the character’s head is have the POV alternate. We could even use an object rather than a person. Something the character is looking at. If we’re using the doll idea, we could have the doll’s point of view. We could either assume that the doll has a mind of its own (a la Toy Story :D) or just mention it, and how it of course looks happy, and blissfully unaware of the chaos going on around it. We wouldn’t have to use the doll though. It could be a rock or something. An emotional rock. 😀
idk, guys. it’s stuff to think about:)
