Reza, hands clasped behind her back, paced across the rooftop with measured steps, a slow, graceful prowling. What was taking the boy so long? Movement in the streets below caught her eye. She turned and approached the edge of the roof, crouching so as not to be seen. Her gaze scanned the world below. Nothing. No. There. She could just barely make out a figure skulking in the shadows along the adjacent building. The figure abruptly darted forward, and out of sight, too close to the wall for Reza to see from her vantage point.

She straightened, taking several steps back to the center of the roof to wait. Six minutes, twenty-three seconds. That’s how long it would take Kenem to find her.
