    Here’s Logan

    ———————-

Logan counted the houses as he walked down the street. The suspected house was supposed to be the tenth one down. He stretched his back under his bullet-proof vest and wiped the sweat from the side of his face with the back of his hand. It was cold but his uniform was too bulky and thick for him to feel the cold.

His dark eyes counted off the houses. 7. . . 8. . .8’s been burned down. Logan stopped and gazed for a moment at the charred remains, a strange, almost lost look settling in his eyes. Shaking himself, he looked quickly away, his jaw clicking shut. A horrible tingling pain went up his left arm, through his shoulder, up the side of his neck and settled under the scar in his temple. He gritted his teeth against the pain. No Logan Blackmoore you are not going to lock up now! Squaring his shoulders, he walked up to the door of the tenth house on the street.

Lifting his hand, he knocked heavily and waited. Nothing. He knocked again, louder this time. Still no one answered. He reached for the handle and much to his surprise, it turned. The house wasn’t locked. He pushed the door open and stepped inside. His dark eyes swept the room in one piercing glance. A girl sat there on the floor near the door. Very short and small. Doesn’t look like much of a threat. Wait- Logan realized that she was gasping for breath. His eyes widened and he stepped over to her. Clearing his throat, he tapped her on the shoulder.

She turned and looked up at him with a face streaked in tears. Her pretty amber-colored eyes were full. A frightened look came into those eyes the next instant and she got up quickly. She backed out the door, her eyes locked on Logan. Suddenly she tripped over the curb and started to fall. Logan gasped and ran to her, reaching her just after she hit the ground. Her eyes were shut and an expression of intense pain creased her face.

Dropping to his knees he bent over her and shook her shoulders gently. She didn’t respond Unconscious. He checked her head, but it didn’t look injured. Looking down, he saw her twisted food. He lifted it in his hands. Carefully he slid her shoe off, trying not to injure her foot anymore. He set the shoe down and felt her foot. Broken. Definitely broken! She probably fainted from pain. Logan pressed his lips tightly together.

Carefully he laid her foot down and got her laying flat on her back. Raising her knees he set her wounded foot in his lap. He pulled off his gloves with his teeth. He needed completely free movement of his hands. As carefully he could, he splinted her ankle with what little he had. Just as he finished, her eyes opened.
