Rhioe tentatively opened the door, wanting to help, but also fearing the worst. To her relief Aura lay in Judah’s arms in a feverish sleep.

“Rhioe!” Judah cried, and Rhioe raced over as fast as she could, dropping to her knees beside Judah and Aura. Her heart broke at the sight of this joyful little girl laying pale and still in Judah’s arms.

She brushed Aura’s curls to the side so she could see the little girl’s face. She bent down and kissed the little girl’s hot forehead.

She sat back on her heels and looked at Judah, her eyes filling with tears, this couldn’t be the end.
