    @bama-rose @w-o-holmes

    So I’m reading back over the last few posts between you guys and thought I’d kinda tell you about my life as a homeschooler. I’m going to try to be organized…

    I’ve been homeschooled my entire life, by mainly my mom. She was public-schooled in her hometown. She didn’t really like it much, but didn’t dislike it any more than anybody else did. It was just normal for her. Anyways, she grew up and got her bachelor’s degree in mathematics at a college up there somewhere, then came to SFASU to get her master’s degree. She was a grad student when she met my dad, who had been teaching developmental math for… idk like four years or something.

    At some point, they got married and had me. They moved out of their apartment (which was like tiny and didn’t have room for me and them) and bought a mobile home, which they put on my dad’s parents’ property (the 40 acres we live on now). (Granny and Granddaddy, daddy’s parents, had sold us like 5 acres so it would be legal and all. Idk all the details).

    It would be worth mentioning that our entire family is really close-knit, and we all love each other a lot. I know sometimes in-laws will be obnoxious, but, us all being Christians, we’re careful who we marry, so if we marry the right person, like we should, that takes care of the obnoxiousness.

    So my dad: He was homeschooled all his life (up to college), along with his brother and two sisters. His dad taught outdoor education at SFA for years and years and years. His mom has a degree in English I think. So when he and mama had me, daddy suggested homeschooling. Mama had never thought about it, because she had been public-schooled. But she liked the idea, because she had seen what public school was like, and neither one of them wanted me to go. So I begin to be homeschooled. We just kinda did (and still do) piecemeal curriculum. We’ve always had either chickens or ducks or both. Once, we had geese (who were mean as heck). When I was little, we had a dog. I don’t remember him at all, because I was like, idk two or something. So anyways, Mama had been teaching, but when she was pregnant with me, she stopped to be a stay-at-home mom. When I was… two-ish, she decided to teach a night-class, to boost our income. Not like we were bad off or anything, but they’d been married only three years, and they have a two-year-old. But anyway. She taught a night-class until she got pregnant with my brother, then she quit teaching college kids and has been at home with us ever since.

    Fast-forward to when I’m about six-ish. Mama found out that there was a homeschooling group in our town, did some research, and joined. We’ve been in NACHEA (Nacogdoches Area Christian Home Educators Association) ever since. I made a friend, Hannah, pretty soon afterwards (and others, but she was the first 😛 ).

    Ok so now let’s come back to present-time. We’ve built a two-story house, also on the 40 acres, which we built mainly ourselves, only hiring someone to do the insulation and shingles. We have chickens, ducks, a cat and two dogs, I’m about to be 15, I love my parents, I’m not spoiled (and know I’m not), I’m in a Christian family, I love writing, I have tons of friends (some are online friends 😀 ), I have a huge, major, big-time crush on the sweetest, dorkiest nerd/geek I know (just thought I’d throw that in there 😛 ), I just started an online, parent-led drivers’ ed course, and my birthday guest-list has 70-some-odd people on it.

    We (NACHEA) have an annual ball (like our version of prom), park days (exactly what it sounds like) three times a month, dance practice in the fall, game nights and moms’ night outs, and lots more. Nobody makes fun of anybody (except for good-natured stuff), we all know each other, and it’s great. We have our own versions of the nerdy kids, the jocks, the kid who just hangs out at the library, etc. One of my friends just went off to college, two of my friends are taking dual-cred, and like.. Idk it’s just awesome.

    My brother and I went to a friend’s birthday party yesterday night (he and his sister are the ones I mentioned are taking dual-credit). We played Gaga Ball, Laser Tag, Ninja, Bounce-It (like beer-pong, but not), and talked and joked and stuff.

    Some categories of people we have (I’m using first names only, and I’m not gonna list everybody because that would take forever):

    The annoying, self-absorbed jock: Gianfranco; 16, has his license (I think), is like really handsome (it’s the Italian genes) but is annoying and so like nah bro. Plays tennis and likes to speak in Spanish to annoy those of us who don’t have a clue what he’s saying. He and his friend Justin have probably the dirtiest mouths of everybody. Sadly, they don’t have as strict morals as the rest of us. But they use their words sparingly and I haven’t heard them say anything out loud, cussing-wise. It’s mainly just online in their Instagram posts.

    The nerds/geeks: Michael; 16, has his permit, cute as heck, likes peanuts, dislikes pumpkin. Polite, sweet, and hilarious. He and his sister, Elanie, are taking dual-credit at SFA. It’s his party I went to. Me; What? You want me to give a short bio of myself here, too? Nah. Go read back over what I’ve already typed. I do, however, identify as a nerd, because hey. Books??

    The people who are just annoying: Philip; 12 or 13. Idk and I don’t care. He’s just annoying. I can’t tell you why, because he just is. Douglass; 13. Ok so I feel kinda bad putting him here cause he’s a really nice person, but like he’s annoying because I’m awkward around him because I suspect he likes me, but I don’t like him that way, and just… nhgn. Milo: Ok so here’s another person who I don’t know exactly how old he is, and can’t give you a good reason why I think he’s annoying. Just.. he just is.

    The people who are just totally awesome: Buddy; Don’t anybody tell him I put him under this category…. If you wanna know more about him, just go message @ wordsmith (and yes I wrote his tag that way so it wouldn’t actually tag him 😛 ). Everybody else, to some extent, but I’m tired of typing.

    Ok well that’s kinda what I wanted to say. Questions? Comments?
