@daeus-lamb Hmm… this was always an interesting point for me because I generally felt like I didn’t have many ideas (only two short-ish novel ideas are floating around right now), whereas my best friend gets so so so many. But then reading this, I did realize that there are all sorts of things that inspire me, and that in general they have found their way into short stories or unpolished snippets of writing.

The “story as a potential spouse” metaphor is so good! I do think that I have been clinging to my WIP rather possessively for the past couple of years, trying to rationalize myself with “you spent so much time in it, so you should keep going and not stop”. Things have gotten better now, but I fear my own guilt if I ever give up on it :/
