@elisha-starquill Aw, cool! You’ll have to let me know if you get one!

Male parrotlets sometimes learn to talk, and in rare cases females can. Blu doesn’t, although I think she used to a little bit when she was younger, but it was barely recognizable. Parrotlet talk is kind of warbled and much less clear than that of a parakeet or larger parrot. I guess they don’t really have the vocal range of other birds. They are very intelligent though. Blu definitely understands a lot of human words. (For example, “No.” “Do you want some?” “Chips.” “Nuts.” “Yogurt.” “Broccoli.” “Ask nicely.” “Don’t chew.” “Do you want a drink?” “Ask for water.” “Night-night.” “Bye-bye.” “Do you want your bottle?” (Her favorite toy, an old medicine bottle with corn kernels in it which she loves to chase all over the floor.) Also “go under,” “spin around,” “shake,” “high five,” and “wave,” which are all cues for her tricks.)

Sounds? She has quite a range. xD If she wants attention, she has a short, sharp chirp. When she’s mad, she squawks and growls or makes a clicking noise in her throat. When she’s content, she grinds her beak and makes soft, squeaky sounds. When she’s excited (running after her toys, asking for food, etc.) she raises up her feathers and lets out a steady, constant chirping and chattering that kind of sounds like R2D2. xD And when she’s asking for something or just being affectionate, she taps you and goes, “gwaaaaarwwwk!”

She also likes to give you kisses all over your face, and then she puts her head down and puffs up her feathers to ask you to rub her head. So cute. <3
