For the rest of the story I am thinking

He realizes that his impetuosity, lack of forethought, and loner mentality can endanger people and needs to be changed.

He realizes that he has put the rest of the Resistance in danger and tries to figure out a way to save them.

He realizes that the only way they won’t try to pull a rescue mission is if he is no longer alive for them to rescue.

He chooses to sacrifice himself to save the rest of the Resistance. (I am thinking that the sacrifice will be along the lines of trying to attack the Regent, he fails, the guards kill him.)

He wakes up from a coma, miraculously healed and with a new outlook on life. (Kind of like in “The Shack.”)
