@taylorclogston If you’re questioning regarding different editors, and whether they are as good as they appear, I’d instantly suggest tapping into your amazing resource of writer friends. A lot of us have had experience with some amazing editors, and would be happy to point you to reliable people who we actually like and are willing to recommend.

Rule of thumb: One recommendation beats one hundred reviews.

That said, reading reviews is also a must. Sure, the editor will only put on their best reviews, but it still gives you a general idea. (I personally get really frustrated at reviews because of a few writing courses I’ve seen that have super high reviews from a few of the betas. I was a beta. My review wasn’t 100% brilliant so they didn’t post it. And a lot of the content of the course was false, so yeah. Not a fan of reviews and their reliability.)
