I’m actually kind of happy that you thought it was the typical chosen one story starting out, because I did that on purpose. 😛 At the risk of shooting myself in the foot, I wanted to use those tropes to showcase everything problematic with that mentality. ‘Chosen One’ used to be cool and fun and ‘anyone can save the world!’ used to be the message, but it’s gotten so overdone I started wondering what else they could be used for, or how they could possibly come about in a more realistic world. What if, instead of exploring courage, it was actually used to explore cowardice? And so on. The story was a challenge but also pretty fun to write. 😉
