    Thanks for the response and the Tolkien flood! Sorry about the long delay in my own reply – haven’t had internet for a good week since traveling. Yeah – Rest for the Wicked’s cast mainly falls into the third group – negative characters to receive redemption – but I wonder if that might be too cheap, having most of the protagonist characters receive salvation – I guess I fear that it will seem routine that a given character will be saved.

    Further on in the story, I’m also having difficulties with some of the ‘good’ characters, inasmuch as making them genuinely flawed but still ‘good’ or at least genuine in their faith. Don’t want them to be complete goody-two-shoes who never do anything wrong, but I don’t want them to be deranged zealots who have missed the core truth of divine grace, or broken cynics clinging desperately to fading ideals, either.
