@taylorclogston That’s pretty ambitious! I tend to freak out if I try to make goals like that, so I admire the fact that you’re able to do that.
I think I understand how you feel. I’ve been experiencing something similar for the past few months ever since I set aside my major project. I couldn’t seem to find another story that clicked with me and that I felt like I could throw myself completely into. I pretty much ended up hating everything I tried. I did have passion for writing; in fact, maybe too much—to the point where all I could see was the end goal and I was getting discouraged because my current work was so far from my expectations. I felt a lot of that brain fog too, and it seemed like whenever I sat down to brainstorm or work out a problem, all I got was a swarming black muddle in my head. I’m only just starting to break out of it. What helped me the most, I think, was first looking back at what it was about my old projects that I loved (and finding ways to replicate that, in both methods and content), and second, I had to start fresh, de-stress, and find ways to get myself excited about my work again (for me, that was going crazy building a new world, picking a theme that is important to me, and setting up character relationships I knew I would enjoy). Write what’s on your heart, and don’t beat yourself up when you don’t make much progress or something isn’t perfect. Write because that story means something to you—not just because it seems like a cool idea. That was my biggest mistake.
Looking forward to your updates!
