Hi @kb-writer ! 😀 This is late, but I read it a few months ago for school. 🙂
Overall, I was unhappy and happy with it. I felt a bit disgusted and frustrated afterwords, (I am normally not fond of tragedy/unhappy endings 😉 ), but also a little in awe? Awe I think, that I still enjoyed the story while being unhappy with it.
It had great themes, description, characters, prose.
I feel like the story ended hopeless (which, since it was an allegory on the Russian Revolution and he was writing it to SHOW that it was bad, I understand why) but there seemed to be a lack of good justice and hope.
Boxer’s death, when the pigs started walking and before, the description of the animals killing the other animals.
The ending -that it wasn’t happy, as a warning to us and that the animals (and even myself a bit of the time) were tricked. That it can happen and we must be very careful to stand up for the right thing.
I think one of the themes was ignorance. That we can pretend everything is fine, letting tiny matters go, until it is so large we can’t stop it.
The cat was my favorite. The character wasn’t helpful and didn’t seem to have a side (I think?) and added a little humor to a dark story.
