I know this discussion is weeks old but I found a negative character arc and I want to talk about it. It’s Jaina Proudmoore from World of Warcraft.
So Jaina’s, like pretty much everyone on WoW, has a Tragic Backstory. The relevant parts of hers are sung about in this super awesome song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fo7XPvwRgG8 Basically, her father, whom Jaina was close to, was going to attack the Horde (a collection of races traditionally associated with the bad guys, such as orcs, trolls, and goblins, but are not bad guys themselves) for reasons that I don’t remember but I think it was because Racism. Jaina thought this was wrong, so she warned the Horde. The Horde was ready when her father and his fleet arrived, and most of the fleet, including Jaina’s father, was killed. Jaina was considered a traitor by her family and her country. Es muy triste.
But, over the course of the story, Jaina becomes disillusioned with the Horde. It has gotten to the point where when my Horde character was sneaking through the Alliance captial (the Alliance is the counterpoint to the Horde that has traditionally good races), freeing political prisoners, setting the city on fire, and causally killing any guards that tried to stop me, (you know how it goes), Jaina confronted us and called us “Horde Scum”.
First of all, *gasps* Jaina, that is unbecoming of you. Second of all, Jaina used to believe in peace between the Alliance and the Horde enough that her father was sacrificed in pursuit of that goal. She was one of the few shining examples of people who was respected by both sides. Now she was so disillusioned that she called the Horde scum.
I really love WoW, SO MUCH! Characters have really complex motivations, characters passionately conflict with each other with both of them being right, and there is loads of content.
